The Run with the Horses Marathon in Green River, Wyoming, offers a challenging and scenic course that begins at Expedition Island, situated at an elevation of 6,100 feet. Runners traverse city streets and the Greenbelt Trail before ascending 1st Springs Canyon and crossing the top of White Mountain, with elevations ranging from 7,300 to 7,500 feet. This out-and-back route provides breathtaking high plains desert vistas and opportunities to encounter wild horses and other wildlife. Held annually during the River Festival, the event features a vibrant atmosphere with a Cajun shrimp boil, craft vendors, live music, and fireworks. Aid stations are available every two miles, and the race accommodates all levels with a seven-hour time limit. Finishers receive unique horse-themed medals, and age group winners are awarded trophies made from local minerals.
