On Saturday, December 3, over 1,800 runners braved wind, rain and chilly temperatures to compete in the annual Millinocket Marathon and Half. Included in this group were 28 runners who made the long trek north from the Blue Hill Peninsula. According to the event’s website, the race was first run as a hastily put together fundraising effort to support the town of Millinocket in 2015, which had been left economically ravaged by the closing of the local paper mill. That race featured just over 50 runners, and has grown exponentially in the years that have followed its inception.
Clinton Cushman, the oldest registered runner in the 13.1 mile race, beat his 2021 time by three minutes.
With the rainy weather and ice and slush on the roads, completing the marathon or half was no easy task.
