The Carlsbad Marathon is held in January on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend in Carlsbad, California, alongside a half marathon and 5K. The two-loop, out-and-back marathon starts at The Shoppes at Carlsbad and runs more than 18 miles along the Pacific Ocean on Carlsbad Boulevard, passing the Buena Vista Lagoon and Carlsbad Village on the way to turnarounds at La Costa Avenue and Breakwater Road.
