Crisp morning, steady winds ahead

Runners will face a temperature rising from 36°F at the start to 59°F by the finish, with a maximum wind of 13 mph from the NW. The first half will benefit from tailwinds between miles 3-5 and 9-12, but headwinds will challenge runners from mile 6 and again at miles 11-12 and 19. Hydration will be essential, especially as temperatures rise; runners should pace conservatively early on to conserve energy.

Flat & Fast

Struggled with heat and wind, but still secured a BQ.

The biggest concerns are wind from the north or south as the majority of the race is run that direction as well as sun/heat as there is very little shade. I felt pretty good about my fitness for a sub-3:00, but knew if the weather was against me, I’d need to adjust. I hit the half in 1:29:48, right on target. This was probably the lowest part of the race. Wanted to drop so bad, but I knew if I held on, I should have a decent BQ in case this fall didn’t work out.

Flat & FastPR Attempt

Struggled with wind on the first loop but stayed on pace.

The wind was directly out of the south which meant the first 2 miles of each loop would be rough plus a 0.5-mile section later in the loop. I decided to go with a pace band from www.findmymarathon.com which is course specific. It accounts for the elevation when giving the pace split. I also set it to even effort with a conservative first two miles.
