The Grand Island Trail Marathon takes place on Grand Island, a roughly 13,500-acre island in Lake Superior reachable only by ferry from Munising, Michigan. The race offers 50K, marathon, and half marathon distances along the island's perimeter trail, passing 300-foot Jacobsville sandstone cliffs and shoreline views of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The marathon course measures about 27 miles, longer than the standard 26.2-mile distance. Entries are capped at 500 runners combined across all three distances.
