Race Info
The Volksbank Münster Marathon runs through Münster, Germany, each September, starting on the Schlossplatz beside the city's baroque castle. The nearly flat course passes through the old town and around the Aasee lake, then heads west through Nienberge, Roxel and Gievenbeck before returning to finish on the gabled Prinzipalmarkt in front of Münster's city hall. First held on September 8, 2002 with about 5,000 runners, it has grown into one of Germany's largest marathons, drawing more than 12,000 participants and roughly 100,000 spectators, with over 300 street performers along the route. The 2026 edition marks the race's 25th anniversary and is a qualifying race for the Abbott World Marathon Majors age-group world championship.
